Learning curve...
I'm currently developing a new Brand identity for The University of Leicester Students' Union - briefed in August, to be ready for the new term in mid September!
There are quite a few challenges; not least the time and budget constraints.
The brief was to re-energise ULSU to be contempory and be a student rather than institutan led identity - more engaging and youthful but still retaining the gravitas and prestige of the university, it was also important to create something that would be flexible enough to work across many mediums and easy to adapt for campaigns, partners and university services while maintaining a recognisable brand.
We focused on the word 'UNION' and introduced an over-lapping device with a thick semi-rounded adaption of the Foco font, utilising their exsisting palette of colours:
This is now being developed and adapted for use in signage around the building, which at the moment has very little 'Union' branding. We are in a good position now to move the brand forward.
It was interesting to compare the many different brand identities created for different university Unions with the exsisting ULSU logo: the most successful recognise their youthful audience and are consistant and relevant:
Next month the new brand will be launched!
